Common Bone Fractures
There are four primary types of fractures:
Open fractures are categorized by the bone breaking through the skin and closed fractures are not visible through the skin. Because of the exposure outside the skin, open fractures are dangerous and at times can lead to bone infections. Displaced fractures occur when the bone breaks in two or more places and shifts so that the ends of the bone are no longer aligned with each other. Non-displaced fractures occur when a bone breaks and the ends of the bone maintain their alignment. An injury can be considered non-displaced if the bone does not break completely through.
If you have suffered a bone fracture or think you have, the orthopedic surgeons at Texas Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine recommend you seek medical help as soon as possible. Some injuries can have serious consequences if not treated properly and quickly.
